Summary:

Design of power transformers with respect to fast front transients requires appropriate simulation models. Transformer manufacturers have developed detailed transformer modes for their internal use. Such models are described in terms of node capacitance and coil inductance matrices of the windings. This paper describes implicit and explicit state space models of power transformers for fast front transient simulations. Simulation of time and frequency domain responses with such models is detailed. The paper shows simulation results obtained with a manufacturer model of a power transformer using the proposed models.
